Designated Safeguarding Leads

If you have ANY concerns about the safety or welfare of child, you MUST contact one of the school's DSLs listed below IMMEDIATELY.
Even if the school is closed, it is really important that you let us know about these concerns because WE WILL ACT ON THEM.
At Thornton Primary School we take our Safeguarding responsibilities very seriously. This means we ensure that everyone working in our school has successfully completed the necessary clearances to enable them to work with children.
This also means that we have staff members who are specifically trained to deal with safeguarding issues. There is always a trained member of staff on the school premises to deal with any safeguarding concerns that may arise.
These staff are:
  • Miss Charlotte Loach

(CURRENTLY ON MATERNITY LEAVE) Assistant Headteacher, Lead DSL

Hi everyone, I have worked at Thornton Primary school for 6 years and I am the Lead DSL.

The Safeguarding of the children at Thornton is our key priority and staff have updates on Safeguarding procedures regularly and full training annually in September.

We have an electronic system of recording and reporting concerns about a child and all DSLs have access to these records, which are checked multiple times a day.

We have an open door policy here at Thornton and we are happy to speak to any member of the school community who may have concerns about the welfare or safety of any child, whether the concerns are at school or in the wider community.

Please contact me, in confidence, if you would like to talk.

Miss Loach will be on maternity leave from May 2021- April 2022.

  • Mrs Cathy Grace

    Headteacher, Acting Lead DSL

Mrs Grace has undertaken the Lead DSL training and will be taking over as Lead DSL when Miss Loach is on Maternity leave between May 2021 and April 2022.

  • Mrs Shabana Mazar

    Acting Assistant Headteacher, Deputy DSL

By working together as a team, we firmly believe that we will continue to offer a safe learning environment for all our children.
Please ask to speak to one of these staff if you have any concerns.
