  • Mrs Sue Simmons

    Headteacher

    s.simmons@thornton.bham.sch.uk

Hello everyone. I have been Headteacher at Thornton since September 2015 and am thoroughly enjoying my time in the school. I have been in school leadership since 1998 and this is my fourth headship. I have a particular interest in the maths curriculum and really enjoy PE as this was my degree at University. I hope you won't hesitate to come and see me if you want to discuss any aspect of the school's work - I operate an 'Open Door' policy and try to make myself as accessible to parents before and after school on the playground. Please come and meet me!

  • Mr Amjid Ali

Chair of Governors / Parent Governor

It is a pleasure to work as part of a dedicated team striving to make Thornton Primary School the best, and I welcome any comments you have to help us further improve on our journey to outstanding. I can be found in the playground at the start and end of the day, and can be contacted via reception if you would like to speak to me.

My qualifications include Master of Business Administration (MBA).

  • Mrs Yasmin Begum

    Co-opted Governor

Hello my name is Yasmin. I am a mother of two boys, one is here at Thornton. I am very fortunate and privileged to be part of the Governing body here at Thornton. I am very keen and eager to be part of a school which has come a long way in the last two years and also a school which forms the basis and foundation of so many careers.
This saying was said to me when I was young and it has stuck with me. C .S Lewis once said “The task of a modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts.”
We can create a school that exceeds the expectations of all the parents and the wider community of Ward end/Hodge hill. I am driven by the desire to get the best for all our children here at Thornton.
I am in the playground every day. I am friendly and approachable. I am always happy to help and give advice. If I am unable to advice you I will direct you to the right person who can help.
I am also the link Governor for SEND.
