Operation Encompass

What is Operation Encompass?

Operation Encompass has been established in September 2021 to help schools provide in-school support to children who have been present at, or involved in any domestic abuse incident. We know that children can be significantly harmed, physically and/or emotionally, during these situations, and that it can also negatively affect their learning and behaviour in school.

Encompass is a joint initiative between West Midlands Police and Birmingham City Council to confidentially notify schools when pupils may potentially need greater pastoral support at school.

Here at Thornton, we have a dedicated and child-focused safeguarding team. They are specially trained to effectively use the information the Police share, in confidence, and enable the school to provide the right support to any child and their family.
