Mindfulness and Wellbeing

Why is it important to promote children’s mental health and wellbeing?

We understand that promoting children and young people’s wellbeing is a key part of keeping them safe, helping them develop and ensuring they have positive outcomes into adulthood.

Mental health is the way children think and feel about themselves and the world around them. It affects how children cope with life’s challenges and stresses. Good mental health is an important part of healthy child development. It helps children build positive social, emotional, behaviour, thinking and communication skills.

Mental health plays a key role in a child’s overall wellbeing and can be affected by various factors, including:

  • environment
  • stress
  • family circumstances
  • abuse and neglect.

Negative experiences can adversely affect a child’s mental health, just as positive experiences can help improve it.

On this page you will find some tips and resources to help you promote mental wellbeing with your children and the young people you care for.

There is a yoga video at the bottom of the page which specialises in mindfulness so check it out! You can find more on Youtube but please use www.Watchkin to view.
