North and South America: how diverse are their places and landscapes?

Geography - Topic 2 - Autumn

 

To help engage and excite the pupils about their new topic, the pupils will follow instructions and directions to locate a series of countries in North and South America (using map to locate countries in North and South America).

In this geography topic, children will have the opportunity to explore North and South America. Children will be learning about how to locate certain countries on a map and to identify the lines of longitude and longitude. Not only this, but children will be using climate graphs to help them understand how the climate changes in North and South America. They will understand the countries that have different physical and human features and this is understood by looking at the landscapes and populations within different countries in North and South America. Children will also have the opportunity to understand how the countries in these continents have economic growth and what contributes to this. They will also have an opportunity to plan and design a trip to one of the countries in North and South America and explore some of the tourist attractions.

 

 By the end of this unit, children will be able to apply their knowledge and skills to describe North and South America UK and how diverse the places and landscapes are.

 

In their science topic; Electricity, children will be learning to draw series circuits using the correct scientific symbols. They will also be learning about what components need to be present to make a complete series circuit. Not only this, but children will also learn about what factors can contribute to a circuit being incomplete. Children need to understand that all components will need to work in order for a circuit to work. Children will also have the opportunity to set up their own experiments and these experiments will focus on how the amount of voltage effects the brightness of a bulb. Children will also be learning about sustainability and they will be learning about the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy.
