Year 5 Topic 4

Year 5 - Topic 4

 Geography - The Amazon Rainforest

In this unit, children will develop an understanding of rainforests by exploring their global distribution and distinguishing between tropical and temperate types. They will learn about the key physical and human features of the Amazon rainforest, including its biodiversity, food resources, and indigenous communities.

The children will investigate the importance of rainforests, the challenges they face such as deforestation, and the global debate surrounding their future. Through discussion and research, they will consider how people and organisations work to protect these vital ecosystems and reflect on the impact of human choices on the environment.

In Science, the children will look at reversible and irreversible changes. They will test materials to see how they are changed and whether those changes are reversible or permanent. The children will test the solubility of different materials. They will design, carry out and evaluate an experiment to test how materials can be separated. The children will observe the effects of heat energy and acid on materials to see how they are affected.
