Year 4 Topic 4

 Year 4 - Topic 4

History - The Romans

This topic will begin with an engaging Roman assembly, where the children will take a closer look at Roman Military artefacts. A 'Roman Soldier' will visit the children, with a range of Roman artefacts to bring the learning to life. The children will take part and act out the fighting scenes using the swords and shields. They will learn who the Roman soldiers were and what they did.

The aim of this unit is to develop our knowledge of the changes and impact the Romans had on Britain. We will investigate how the Romans invaded Britain, key events such as Boudica’s rebellion and the impact the Romans had on religion, daily life and settlements. By the end of the unit, we will be able to describe and explain how life in Britain changed due to Roman settlement.

In Science, the children will learn how electricity powers many things we use every day, like lights and computers. They will find out how to build and draw simple circuits and test what happens when something goes wrong! The children will also discover which materials let electricity flow through them (conductors) and which ones stop it (insulators).

By the end of this topic, the children will be able to ask questions, test their ideas, and explain what they have found out about how electricity works.
