Year 5 Topic 5

Year 5 - Topic 5

History - The Tudors: what effect did the reign of Henry VIII have on religion in Britain?

The history topic will begin with the children exploring artefacts and other sources to draw information about the Tudor period and review and recall their prior knowledge.

In history lessons, the children will be investigating the Tudors, in particular, the reign of Henry VIII and his problems in getting a son as his heir and the knock-on effects this had on religion in Britain. They will be studying evidence around the trial of his second wife and consider why she had to die. The children will then move on to look at the reign of Elizabeth 1 and explore how she demonstrated power as a female monarch at a time when men dominated the thrones of Europe.

In science, the children will learn to identify and describe the stages of animal life cycles, including mammals, amphibians, insects and birds. They will explore how animals grow and change as they develop from offspring into adults and understand the differences between life cycles. They will also investigate how animals reproduce and survive, while developing scientific skills such as observing, recording data and drawing conclusions.
