Year 4 Topic 5

Year 4 - Topic 5

Geography - Europe: how diverse are its landscapes and places?

The unit will begin with a fun and interactive quiz, where the children will explore a variety of atlas maps, globes and Digimaps to review and recall their prior knowledge.

The aim of this unit is to develop the children's knowledge of Europe. They will study maps and globes to locate continents, major cities, and physical and human geography features. The children will identify different climate zones and plan a holiday to a European country.

In science, the children will investigate local plants and animals, comparing the biodiversity of urban, and local habitats while learning that humans can have both positive and negative impacts on the environment. They will construct classification keys, creating yes/no questions, to sort living things. By the end of the unit, they should understand how human actions, such as rewilding or habitat destruction, affect biodiversity and be able to explain these impacts.
