Admissions

This section tells you how your child can be admitted to the School.

Thornton Primary School is a Community Primary School that caters for children from 4-11 years old.

The 30 Reception places and the 120 Year 3 places are allocated to children each year by Birmingham LEA, with the majority of Year 3 children being admitted from Sladefield Infant School.

Other children can be admitted in any of the seven years when places are available. The School operates a comprehensive waiting list. Please contact us on 0121 327 0824 to discuss the waiting list.

At present the School is full. In all years there is a waiting list. If your child is on the waiting list you will be notified as soon as there is a vacancy. If your child is on the waiting list there are LEA guidelines that the School has to follow. Your child will be placed in order of priority according to the following:

  • Looked After Children - a child with a statement of Special Educational Needs or EHC plan.
  • Siblings (the child has brothers/sisters attending the School, or attending Sladefield Infant School)
  • Proximity to the School
  • Particular individual needs
  • Children living outside the area.

Any parent is welcome to visit the School prior to requesting admission.

If you fail to gain a place at the School for your child you have the right to appeal through the Education Department.
