11th May 2018

Hello everyone!

It has been a lovely week with lots of sunshine.  Please remember a hat and sun cream on very sunny days so that your child is protected at breaktimes.

Since we have returned from the Easter break we have been unhappy with the behaviour of some of the boys at lunchtimes.  They are playing very physical games and it is leading to disruption and arguments that it takes a lot of time to deal with.  From next week we will have a ‘zero tolerance’ to aggressive behaviour on the playground and if children continue to behave aggressively towards other children and do not respond to adults, then we will be speaking to parents about taking their children home for lunch.  This will ensure that other children are safe on the playground.  We would appreciate your support in this matter and ask you to speak to your child about their behaviour to ensure that they see you are supporting the school on this matter.  Thank you.

Thornton will be taking part in the national READTAHON during the final summer term.  Read for Good does something amazing. They get children reading for fun through a sponsored Readathon. The money raised buys books for schools and brings the power of stories to children in hospital via mobile bookcases and resident storytellers.

The charity motivates whole schools and communities to read for fun because we know that loving reading changes lives.

Toys in school

Please remind your child that we do not allow toys to be bought into school. Children are bringing toys and swapping or giving them away and then changing their mind and it is causing us to spend a lot of time sorting out arguments.

Toys will be kept by the teachers and returned directly to parents if they are found in school.  Thank you.

MOBILE PHONES are not allowed in school!

Well done to year 3 who had the most classes that achieved the school attendance target of 97% and above.
