Thornton Times

17th March 2017

Hello everyone,

Since I became headteacher at Thornton we have been improving the school environment; we have refurbished the corridor outside the hall, the classrooms in Year 5 have been completely redone, we have a new staffroom, new ICT suite, new library and lovely playgrounds for the children.  The next stage of our development is to refurbish the corridor outside the Year 3 classrooms.  Over the summer holiday this work will be completed and it is a very large job.  Therefore, we will be closing 2 days early at the end of the academic year on FRIDAY 21st JULY.  I wanted to let you have plenty of notice in case you are booking holidays or need to make childcare arrangements.

I am sorry if this will cause you any inconvenience but we really need the additional two days to make sure the school site is safe for the children to return in September.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Sue Simmons, Headteacher.

Thornton’s Door Decorating Competition!

Well done to all the classes who competed in Thornton’s Door decorating activities! The exciting competition saw the school showcase its creativity—with vibrant colours and gripping storylines filling each  and every corridor! Whilst judges had the undeniably difficult task deciding who would ultimately receive the title of “Door Decorating Champions”, there could only be one winner…

WELL DONE GREAT HORNED OWL 6!

Filled with pupil work, natural decoration and even knitted characters, Great Horned Owl 6’s contribution was a fantastic example of successful teamwork. The winners will be invited to a very special Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to celebrate their success.

Well done to all the classes who showcased the best of Thornton’s determination and creativity during our book fortnight competition.

A special mention goes to our five runners up: Reception, Tawny Owl 3, Tawny Owl 4 and Snowy Owl 5! Well done! Take a sneak peek at some of our fantastic designs!
