Thornton Times

16th September 2016

Hello everyone!

Parents of children in Years 1, 2 and 3 are invited into school on Monday to meet their child’s new teacher. It will be years 4, 5 and 6 next Monday 26th. Parents of Reception children have been invited separately to meet Miss Rehman over two days next week. We are not having appointments but you can come any time between 3.30 p.m. and 5.00 p.m. to meet the teachers and see your child’s classroom. If you want a more in-depth meeting then please arrange an alternative time with your child’s class teacher. Refreshments will be available in our new entrance—come along and see what has been happening over the summer holidays.

Have a good weekend everyone. Sue Simmons, Headteacher.

Please can we remind all parents that we are now a cashless school and therefore all payments for school dinners and Little Hoots before and after school clubs must be paid via ParentPay.

Please be aware, that there are now separate sections on ParentPay where you can make these payments.

Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the admin team if you have any queries regarding this.

Thank you.

Aston and Nechells Foodbank

This year we will be supporting the Aston and Nechells Foodbank again. The Friends of Thornton will be helping us, however, it would be great if as many of us as possible could get involved and help the local community.

We will be focusing on the foodbank in our Harvest Assembly in October but in the meantime there is a wish list on the school website (on the homepage) from the foodbank. There are lots of different things that you could buy to help, ranging from tinned food to nappies.

Keep an eye out for a letter that will be sent home nearer to the end of half term, that will include more information regarding the food bank and the dates we will be collecting food, including the date of the Harvest celebration.

Let’s get together and help local people in crisis!!!

Don’t forget that the tuck shop will be open from Monday. Please send your child to school with a maximum of £1.00 to buy our healthy snack items. See the school website for a list of items available.

Macmillan Coffee Morning will be held on Friday 30th September! We would also welcome donations for the raffle to raise extra money at this event. All donations would be greatly appreciated.

Mrs Simmons’ usual coffee mornings will continue fortnightly. The first will be held on the 5th October and the second will take place on the 19th October. All coffee mornings start at 9.15 a.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

Reception, Year 3 and Parent Workshop

Please remember that all Reception and Year 3 parents are invited to a workshop to learn more about the Dot Com programme.

The workshop will be held on Monday 26th September at 2.40pm- 3.20pm in the Main School Hall.

Parent Consultation Meetings

Remember that parent consultation sessions for EYFS are being held on Monday 19th September 1pm-3.20pm and Tuesday 20th September 1pm- 4pm. See you there!
