Sports Day—Years 3 and 4

On Tuesday 14th June we had our Year 3/4 Sports Day for the first time at Wyndley Athletics Stadium. The children had an unbelievable experience competing in a variety of events including sprints, long jump and throwing events. There were some fantastic individual performances and there was also great teamwork to be seen throughout the day. Our overall winners for the day in Year 3 were Mr Iqbal’s class and our Year 4 winners were Miss Taylor’s class.

Well done everyone!

Keep up the good work!

Sports Day—Yrs 5 and 6

On Monday 20th June, Thornton attended their rescheduled Sports Day in the rain again!!!!! The children showed great spirit and determination to compete for the gold medals—it was an outstanding day of athletics and so many races were decided on the line. We even got some sun in the afternoon. Our overall winners in Year 5 were Mr Hulbert’s class and our Year 6 winners were Mr Robert’s class.

Well done to all Year 5 and 6’s. You all did great!

Kenilworth Castle—Year 1

Last Thursday, Year 1 visited Kenilworth Castle. Despite the rain we had a fabulous day! Our group leader, Alice, showed us around the Gate House, The Keep and the beautiful gardens. Alice was very impressed with how much knowledge we had about castles. In assembly on Friday Arham, Selina and Hussain told the rest of the lower phase about the trip; they were fantastic and remembered so many facts!

Miss Loach, Lower Phase lead.

Sports Events

On Tuesday 26th May, Mr Hulbert’s class attended the Aston Olympians event at Birmingham University. The children were able to use the fantastic facilities on offer and had a great time taking part in a variety of events including water polo, football, basketball, fitness tasks and an assault course. The children were fantastically behaved and were a credit to Thornton. Well done 5BH.

6RR and 6NW attended a trampolining session at Washwood Heath. The children had great fun learning new skills and experiencing something they had not done before. Well done - your attitude and behaviour were excellent.

Thornton recently attended the Level 2 School Games Competition at Birmingham Rugby Club. The children had a great day, finishing 3rd out of 24 schools. This is a massive achievement as we had never played in a competitive match before. We won 6 out of the 7 matches that we played. Congratulations to Ismail Patel in 6KG who scored an incredible 16 tries. The team even got to meet the Wasps. Well done Thornton - you were great.

French Day

On the 14th July, we will be having our first French Day at school.

There will be lots of fun activities to encourage pupils to develop their skills in French. There will also be a crepe van at school so that we can really celebrate Bastille Day in style. As part of the day, we would like pupils to dress up using the theme of the colours of the French flag (red, white and blue). Girls could wear a beret, boys could wear a moustache.

Parents are more than welcome to come to school to see what their children are doing. There will be more details to follow soon.

Dinner Money

Please can all parents remember that dinner money is now £10.75 per week and NOT £10.50. We still have a great number of parents paying the old price of £10.50, which is causing an increase of debt and is therefore not acceptable.

Have a great weekend everyone!
