Sporting Achievements

Golf Championships

On Monday 16th May, Thornton Primary School attended the Level 2 School Games Tri Golf Festival at Hatchford Brook Golf Course. Fourteen teams from Birmingham were competing to represent Calthorpe School Sports Partnership in the finals. After lots of fun games the results came in and Thornton had won again beating our nearest competitors by over

600 points—this is a massive achievement. Well done Year 5 and 6, keep up the good work. Also, a special mention to Sana in 6EB who won the teamwork award and showing excellent determination.

Cricket Championships On Friday 13th May, Thornton Primary School attended the Sainsburys School Games L2 competition at Kings Heath Cricket Club. Thornton won the re-qualifying for the Sainsburys Schools Games Finals in July.

Keep up the good work—we are all very proud of you here at Thornton!

Author Day

On Wednesday 27th April, critically acclaimed author, Neil Griffiths, came in and entertained pupils, parents and staff with his creative ways of how to bring stories to life and the importance of reading for enjoyment. Throughout the afternoon, the

children thoroughly enjoyed seeing Neil bring his story books to life with his entertaining

approach and fantastic performances. Hamida Ahmadazi 5BH, said, "I thought it was

really funny and I enjoyed how he turned a book into a song and performance".

Thank you to all the parents that attended the workshop and we hope that you all thoroughly enjoyed yourselves.

Book Fair

Book Fair will commence on the 10th June and will end on the 15th June. It will be 3.30 until 4pm in the new hall. There are lots of fantastic books at really great prices with a range of authors to choose from. This is a great opportunity so don’t miss out.

Important Notices

School Photographs

Class photographs will take place on Tuesday 7th June. Please read the letter that has been sent home for more information regarding this.

School Closures

School is closed on Thursday 23rd June for the EU Referendum.

As Ramadan is commencing the 6th June, we understand that pupils will be attempting to fast and may attempt to fast the entire 30 days. As this can make children tired and sometimes ill, we ask where possible if pupils can fast on special days and weekends only. We want to ensure that pupils can continue tolearn throughout the month and are well prepared everyday. Although we can accommodate the fasting of Year 5 and 6 pupils, we do not expect children in Reception, Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 to fast during school time as we are mindful of their health and safety. Thank you for your co-operation.
