20th May 2016

Hello everyone,

What clever children we have at Thornton! Year 2 have sailed through their SATs and had a well deserved ice-cream this afternoon as a reward for all their hard work. Thank you to parents for your support—the children enjoyed coming to breakfast club and sampling our wonderful breakfast too.

Have a super weekend everyone—next week is the last week before the half term holidays! So don’t forget we close at the end of the school day on Friday the 27th May and return on Monday 6th June.

Sue Simmons, Headteacher.

Year 3— Chicks

Over the past two weeks there have been chicks hatching in Year 3. The children have been watching them grow and have been learning all about the life cycle of a chicken. We have also been completing lots of other activities with the chicks such as debating, problem solving, art activities and designing and making a pen for the chicks. The children have loved having the opportunity to learn all about them. We also had a parent workshop where the parents had the chance to meet and handle the chicks, it was fantastic to see so many parents and lots of fun was had by all.

One of the parents commented "It took me back to my childhood in Pakistan when we had chicks. Thank you for this opportunity to see them and work alongside my child."

French Day

We are very excited to be holding our first French Day on the 14th July, which is the anniversary of Bastille Day and the French Revolution in 1789. The school has subscribed to the Linguascope website so that pupils can practice their French at home. It includes lots of fun activities which they will enjoy, whilst improving their French skills.

The website address is: The username is thorntonps and the password is funfrench. Please encourage your child to use it at home. It also includes English pages too. There will be a letter sent to parents nearer to the date, detailing all about the day and what will be involved including a visit from a Crepe van!

Miss Harmer, French co-ordinator.

Sporting Achievements

We have had a fantastic week winning trophies in both cricket and golf. We are very proud of all the children who took part and what they have achieved. Look out for next week’s Bumper Newsletter; there will be photos of the children with their medals and lots more interesting information about the sporting events we have been involved in and the children who have taken part. Well done to you all!

Mr R Bates, Sports Coach.
