15th April 2016

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a lovely break. We are looking forward to the Summer Term and lots of exciting things ahead. The children looked fantastic in their new uniform—they look extremely smart. We will soon have the pictures back from the photographer. We are also really excited about our new playground and the children have really enjoyed using the equipment. Have a great weekend. Mrs Simmons, Headteacher.

Important Notices

New Playground

We are very pleased and proud of our new playground and the children love it. However, this week chewing gum was found on the playground floor. Can we please remind all parents that children must NOT bring chewing gum into school at anytime. We do not want our new equipment to get ruined.

The children look fantastic in their new uniform. Mrs Simmons will be sending out a letter at the beginning of next week to explain the uniform in more detail and how this can be purchased. Thank you to all parents for their support and co-operation.

Woodlands Trip

Can all parents please be aware that Year 2 will not be attending the Woodlands trip in May, due to SATS and another year will be attending.

Collection of Pupils

We have recently had an incident, whereby brothers and sisters coming to collect their younger siblings have behaved in an inappropriate manner. These individuals have being playing on the equipment on the playground, littering and running around. This is not acceptable and compromises the safety of the children here at Thornton. Please can we ensure that this behaviour does not happen again. Thank you.

Important News—Dinner Money!

Please be aware that the price of school dinners has now increased by a cost of 5p per day. Dinners are therefore now £2.15 rather than £2.10 per day. The increase will start from the 18/04/2016. The breakdown of dinner costs per day will therefore be as follows:

1 Day—£2.15

2 Days—£4.30

3 Days—£6.45

4 Days—£8.60

5 Days—£10.75

"School Keep Clear Campaign"

We are lucky to have been selected by Birmingham City Council’s Road Safety Team to take part in the above campaign. Children have been working hard to learn how to cross the road safely, the importance of wearing a seatbelt when travelling in a motor vehicle and the benefits of walking to school.

Reception, Years 1, 2 , 3 and 4, have all taken part in special assemblies run by Melanie Cannell, from the Road Safety Team, with Years 5 and 6 taking part next week. There have been several winners from each year group for a variety of competitions, with entries ranging from road safety posters to car air freshener designs.

We are looking forward to continuing this work with Melanie and hope that no Thornton parents will be approached by the police, when they visit us soon to monitor the zig zag lines outside the school. Thank you for your support in helping to keep our children safe.

We are all very excited as the chicks in Reception have now been born. Parents and children are more than welcome to visit the chicks after school.

They will be with us until the end of next week —we would love
