Thornton Times

30th September 2016

Hi everyone,

Fantastic news! Another Thornton record has been broken! This morning 5 School Governors shared delicious cake, tea and coffee with parents to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There was great excitement about the "guess the number of spots on the cake" and we would like to offer a very big thank you to our winner for donating their prize money back to Macmillan. We also had lots of delighted parents who won super prizes which were generously donated to our raffle.

Thank you to everyone who donated and attended the coffee morning and especially for making it such a huge success.

We raised over £200.00! Cathy Grace, Acting Deputy Headteacher.

Animal Man

This week the Lower Phase had a visit from the Animal Man.

Mo was fantastic and full of knowledge. The talk for Owl Babies was all about pets and the children got to hold a variety of animals from a lizard to a rabbit.

Owlets in Year 1 learnt all about the different animal groups and got to see and hold (if they were brave enough) an animal from each group.

The Wise Owls in Year 2 learnt all about classifying animals and again got to hold a variety of different

animals. What a fabulous morning!!!

Look out for next week’s bumper newsletter edition where there will be lots of photos of the children holding the animals.

Year 3 Assembly

There will be an assembly for year 3 held on Thursday 6th October, starting at 9.15am. All year 3 parents are welcome to attend.

We hope to see you there!!!

Woodlands Trip

Snowy Owl 5 enjoyed their trip to Woodlands this Monday, albeit it was a very wet day.

There will be lots of pictures of the trip in next week’s bumper edition.

ParentPay Presentation

Don’t forget we will be holding a ParentPay Presentation on Monday 3rd October and also Friday 7th October in the Conference Room. This is a great opportunity for parents to come along and receive help and advice regarding their ParentPay accounts. If you are struggling to set yours up please come and see us on Monday or Friday and we can get this sorted for you. We can also give you a step by step guide on how to use this service. If you are having difficulties, it is crucial that you come to see us so that we can avoid any increasing debts.

We look forward to seeing you then!
