23rd March 2018
Hello everyone and happy Sports Relief Day!
Thank you to everyone for supporting us today by buying Sports Relief items and donating 50p for your child to wear their sports kit. We have raised a lot of money for Sports Relief which is a great cause which helps people improve their lives through sporting activities. Don’t forget to do your extra steps today by walking instead of driving, taking the stairs instead of the lift and generally stepping out to get yourself, fitter!
Have a great sporty weekend everyone!

FREE NURSERY EDUCATION FOR YOUR CHILD!
Flying High Nursery School (opposite Thornton) are having an open day tomorrow (24th March 2018) between 11am and 1pm. If you have a child who has turned 2 or 3 since Christmas you could be eligible for FREE nursery education of at least 15 hours per week.
Why don’t you come along tomorrow and talk to Ashleigh our Manager and Anzar our Admin Assistant to find out more information about your child joining the Nursery in April or secure your place for September.
Evidence has shown that not enough children in this area are starting their nursery education when they are eligible and this can hold a child back for when they start school. We look forward to seeing you!
We will be having family Photographs taken in school on Monday 26th of March!
The photographers will be available to take family photos from 7:45—9:00am only.
Last week, we celebrated the National British Science Week at Thornton. The children carried out some exciting science experiments and research throughout the week. As part of our science week activities, we asked the children to create a science project at home. It was lovely to see so many children bring their amazing science projects into school; they had clearly worked so hard with the help of family and friends. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who attended our Science Project Fair and those of you who participated in our parent workshops.
Design an Easter Egg Competition
Be an Egg-spert designer and either draw an amazing Easter Egg or paint a hard-boiled egg. You could even create your favourite book character out of your egg.
Each class will have three winners! Each year group will have a year group winner!
Your entry will need to be in your class by Tuesday 27th March next week and the winners will be displayed in the Easter assembly on Thursday.
Well done to Tawny Owl 5 for achieving 95.9% - the best class attendance this term! However, we are disappointed that so many extended leaves have bought our school
attendance right down to below 97% - let’s see if we can put that right next term and get back up to 97%. Maybe we will have a whole school treat if we can do it!

A Gardeners World!
This year we have been selected to take part in the BBC Gardeners World, 'Meal in a barrow'. We are aiming to take the top prize. Next half term Mr Couldrey is looking forward to starting a gardening club! Let's hope we have some children with green fingers!
