13th October 2017

Hello everyone!

I hope you have all had a great week.  We have had a really hard working term so far and next week will be no different.  We are seeing some great progress in the children’s books which is really pleasing.  Remember to look out for the ‘Five steps to success’ homework that will be coming out next week giving you ideas of what you can do with your child over the holiday to keep their learning alive until we return.

I am really pleased to let you know that so far we are hitting our whole school attendance target of 97%.  You can read later on in the newsletter of a special reward we are going to give to families if they achieve 97% for the whole of the autumn term!

I am currently recruiting for Head boys and Girls for my senior team and am looking forward to letting you know who they are after half term.  Their first job will be to start work with me on our Anti Bullying Policy, part of which will be running a parent workshop to gather your views.

Have a great break everyone!

Sue Simmons, Headteacher.

Year Six meet Clare Balding, Author and Broadcaster

13 children from Year Six had the privilege of travelling to King Edward's School in Handsworth this week, to listen to author and broadcaster Clare Balding discuss her latest novel. She talked about growing up around race horses (her father trained them to run faster) and how this inspired her to write.  Then she encouraged us to think about the books we could write or illustrate. It was really interesting to hear about her experience of broadcasting from the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro: she had lots of inspirational tales to tell about the athletes she met out there. Afterwards, we asked her to sign autographs and we got to tell her what we think of her first novel The Horse Who Wouldn't Gallop. It was a wonderful visit and we are now very excited to get to work on our literary masterpieces.

Holidays!

The school will break up for the half-term break on Friday 20th October at 3.30 pm. All Pupils will return on Tuesday 31st October at 8.45 am

Enjoy your break!

Attendance

Well done to all the children who have achieved our school target of 97% and above attendance for this half term. This is a fantastic achievement. We would like to introduce a new family reward initiative in order to celebrate the hard work of our parents in ensuring their children come to school every day and on time.

All the families who meet our school target of 97% and above attendance for the autumn term will be invited to our very special Assistant Head teacher’s ‘Tea Party’ for each year group at the end of the term in December.

LAST CHANCE  All YEAR 6 PARENTS!

Please let your child’s class teacher know if you have completed the online secondary transfer form. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 31st October 2017. There will be a workshop on Wednesday 18th October at 9am—10am where staff will be available to help you complete the online form.
