7th July 2017

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all enjoying the warm weather—don’t forget please to send a drinks bottle with your child.  They are getting very hot at playtimes and lunchtimes and need constant refreshment.

Just to let you know that reports will be given out next Friday 14th July and parents evening will be on Wednesday 19th July.  If you do wish to see the class teacher please return the slip with your child’s report so that we can book you in.  Hopefully, this will improve the waiting times!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Sue Simmons, Headteacher.

Den Day

Thank you to everyone who supported with Lower Phase’s Den Day, it was lovely to see so many parents joining in and having fun.  So far we have raised £312 for the Save the Children charity, remember your money will be making a difference to some of the most unfortunate children in the world.  I just want to say a massive thank you to all the parents and children.  We could not have done it without you.

Miss Hussain

“The competition was fierce” (Quote from a Year 2 Parent)

“We’ve had an amazing time, you must do it again Miss Hussain” (Quote from Year 1 Parent)

“I’m so happy we raised lots of money to help the children who have nothing” (Naffis Hussain)

Sporting Achievements

Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Cricket Team on winning the regional finals and qualifying  for the national finals next Friday—watch this space for results in our end of year newsletter.  This is a fantastic achievement well done to all involved.

The sports success continues as Thornton won the tri-golf tournament in both age groups. Years 3/4 and Years 5/also qualify for the finals next Friday.  We have a very busy sporting week ahead with teams in Handball and Rugby as well.

Massive achievement by all involved.

Well done to you all!

Mr R Bates, Sports Coach.

From Monday 10th July the Friends of Thornton will be collecting donations for our local food bank.  Please see the wish list of donations below from the Foodbank that are particularly needed but all donations are welcome:

Tinned items:     Meat, Soups, Curry, Vegetables, Tuna, Tomatoes, Potatoes

Toiletries:  Deodorant (Roll-On Only), Soap, Toilet Paper

Let’s get together and help local people in crisis!!!

The weather is becoming increasingly hot, so can we please remind parents to send water bottles with their children.  Any empty drink bottle will do you don’t need to buy a special bottle.  It is important that children drink plenty of water during the day to keep them hydrated.

French Day

A reminder that next Tuesday 11th July is our French Day.  You will have had a letter explaining that there will be lots of fun activities in school relating to French culture.  There will be a French Theatre Company, a Crepe Van and face painting.  Each class will learn about a French speaking country and there will be a football tournament.  There is a £2 contribution for each child towards the extra costs of the day—please send this with your child by Tuesday..  Children are also encouraged to wear red, white and blue—the colours of the tricolour or the colours of the flag of their French-speaking country!

Miss Harmer, French co-ordinator.
