Hello everyone!

Do you drive your child to school each day?  I wonder if you have thought about how dangerous some of the things parents do when dropping off their children?  Stopping in the middle of the road and letting children out into the road; impatient drivers who then try to overtake and nearly run the children over; doing 3 point turns in a narrow street full of cars and going up onto the pavement and nearly knocking children over; racing down the road and blowing their horn impatiently when someone has stopped to let a child cross … do I need to go on??

I’m sure you will agree these things are unacceptable and downright dangerous so please do what you can to ensure the children are safe when coming to and from school. And even consider walking to school—it’s much healthier and will cut down on the traffic around the school.

Thank you for your help!  Have a great weekend everyone.

Sue Simmons, Headteacher.

This week Key Stage 1 took part in a health for life workshop. This was a great opportunity for the children to work with there parents. They cut up different types of fruits including, strawberries, bananas to make healthy yoghurt smoothies.

eSafety

Due to increased access to numerous different technology platforms, many children are at a greater risk of online grooming, cyberbullying and exposure to sexual content online. At Thornton, we believe that E-safety is a critical part of protecting the well-being and safety of our pupils online. We believe it is important for us to work in partnership with you as parents, to keep pupils safe online. It has been made aware that a game called Roblox has inappropriate content for primary school children. We have taken the necessary precautions to ensure pupils cannot access these websites on school premises. We have been advised to recommend parents to use a website called commonsensemedia. The website gives age ratings to all books/movies/video games and allows you to view reviews made by other children and experts.

School Toilets

Parent’s,  Please could you discuss appropriate behaviour in school toilets with your children.

We have had a number of incidents with children flushing clothing and food down the toilet and incidents of vandalism. If this continues, we will have to keep the toilets locked during the day and the keys will be held by staff.  Obviously, we would like to avoid this, therefore, you speaking to your child will help us greatly.  Thank you!
