Friday 8th September 2017
8th September 2017
Welcome back to the start of a new academic year and a special welcome to the new Year 3 students who have joined us, they have settled in well and everybody looks smart in their new uniform.
Over the Summer break we have refurbished the Year 3 corridor which now looks bright and spacious and allows the children to move easily around the school.
It has been a great start to the term, lets hope it gets even better and the weather improves.

Eid Mela 2017
Thornton Primary School
Friday 15th September 3:30pm-5:30pm!
On Friday 15th September The Friends of Thornton will be holding Eid Mela 2017.
Children can wear their Eid outfits to school on this day if they bring a £1.00 donation which will go to charity. There will be lots of exciting activities such as a bouncy castle, face painting and an Ice-Cream Van, along with lots of delicious food, which will be found in the dining hall. All the other activities will be in the middle playground.
To ensure the safety of your children they should be collected at the normal time of 3.30pm after this you must take responsibility for the supervision of your children.
Looking forward to seeing you all for a fabulous evening at Thornton!
Macmillan Coffee Morning
On Friday 29th September we will be supporting Cancer Research by holding our very own ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’. Having a Coffee Morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa, enjoy some gorgeous treats and help Macmillan be there for people facing cancer. Come and join us from 9.00am and help us raise money for charity
Thank you for sending your children to school dressed smartly and in the correct uniform. Our uniform consists of:
- Grey or navy trousers, skirt or pinafore dress
- Navy/white leggings
- White shirt, blouse or t-shirt. (white formal shirt in Year 6 with a tie)
- Navy sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan (knitted V-Neck Jumper or Cardigan in Year 6)
- Black shoes (NOT trainers) or sandals (with full back strap).
- Navy or white hijab (NO PINS)
Please can you make sure that children have a PE kit in school. It is very helpful if all items are clearly labelled with names and classes so that we can easily return lost property.
As you may be aware we have recently changed catering supplier from CityServe to ABM Catering. This is an exciting time for our pupils who deserve the very best at lunchtimes. ABM’s mission statement is to serve nutritious, delicious and wholesome food to our pupils. The new menu’s will soon be uploaded onto the website for parents to view. Please take a look.
Over the next few weeks we shall be sampling the menus to see which options the pupils prefer, please bear with us during this time. If your child comes home and says they had something new, please encourage them to keep trying the new meals in school. The menus promote a healthier approach to eating, using fresh quality ingredients that are locally sourced.
One more important request to all parents is to remember to inform the office if your child changes from dinners to sandwiches or vice versa. During the past week a few pupils have changed their lunchtime arrangements but have failed to inform the office. Please call 0121 327 0824 and speak to Mrs Jackson before you change your child’s meal choice.
A reminder to all parents that we are now a cashless school and therefore all payments for dinners, breakfast, after school clubs and trips, must be paid for via ParentPay. If you do require any assistance regarding this then please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the administration team. Remember that dinners are £11.25 per week and £2.25 per day.
Please can any parents who have not yet returned Contact Forms hand them to the Class Teacher by Monday. It is vital that we have this information to ensure safety of the children.
